Three TV Shows Reimagined as Video Games
Have you ever wondered what life would be life if you woke up in the universe of your favorite show? Me too!
It’s no strange concept for a television show to be reimagined for gameplay. Some of the more popular ones include: The Simpson’s Hit & Run, Adventure Time, and maybe less popular, but twice as jarring, Deadliest Catch.
With today’s insane Sword Art Online-esque technology, and Covid forcing us to appreciate the art of television, I’ve escaped my walls and imagined my life on the couches of my favorite sitcoms. Below are three shows that deserve an eternal virtual world.
The Good Place
At top of my list was actually Westworld, but a little search-engining and I realized the world shares my deep desires for mental agony and treachery, too. A close second to the made-up, but terrifyingly realistic island of sick western fantasies, was an equally terrifyingly realistic version of heaven…or hell?
Welcome to anti-paradise Groundhog Day! Whether you’re a resident or the creator of this world, watch as fellow re-alive humans try to navigate through a purgatory universe. Nothing is what it seems and it seems nothing matters! Reset your world and rejigger everything in sight. Bonus feature: JANET! Your omniscient not-robot, basically a wizard, but will say she isn’t…friend!?
Collect all the ethical points you can before a reset, and you could be sent to real heaven!
Midnight Gospel
Midnight Gospel’s futuristic concept of the virtual reality world is already a game in itself. Clancy, the main character, chooses avatars and enters new worlds to interview their residents. (The following images are credited to Netflix, but discovered rather conveniently in this great review.)
Your imagined-from-the-90s futuristic computer has an index of worlds to enter and explore. While each world is unique in its lore and heart-tugging challenges, they all share the same goal and fate: extinction. The second you choose to or are forced to leave, that single world will cease to exist. The best feature of this game is the ability to record and publish a podcast to the Midnight Gospel universe and the real world, Earth, if you’ve forgotten already. Record your findings and discoveries before they’re gone forever! Does your curiosity kill the citizens you fall in love with?
Lucas Bros. Moving Co.
If you’re a party/group game player like me, you might be familiar with Overcooked and Moving Out. Like Moving Out, Lucas Bros. Moving Co. is a multiplayer simulation game aimed to clear out the homes of customers. Unlike Moving Out, however, the goal for the Lucas Bros. is to not move anything at all. They prefer to get other people to move their stuff…for free!
Relive their first episode (on Hulu) and coerce an array of washed out 90s idols to do the moving for you. Create virtual Creggslist ads and other schemes to outsource help, and keep your clients satisfied with the work. Do they seem stressed? Offer them a joint. Are the Bros. stressed? Ask someone else for a joint! The higher you are the lazier, but more creative you become. Smoke too much, and your day is gone…so don’t ghost your helpers, or you’ll lose them, too!
